Paul Gray Dead

There are numerous reports surfacing saying that Slipknot bassist Paul Gray was found dead in a hotel in Urbandale, IA today. KCCI Des Moines reports Gray was found six hours ago at a Marriott. This backs up an earlier post in the Des Moines Examiner. Gray was 38. He leaves behind a wife, Brenna Paul, who is expecting a child. According to the Examiner, the preliminary reports from the scene indicates a drug overdose as the cause of death.

This is seriously one of the most unfortunate years for deaths in metal that we can think of. In little more than a month, we’ve lost Peter Steele, Ronnie James Dio, and now Paul Gray. If it does indeed turn out to be drug related, it’s an extremely unfortunate turn of events from one of the most popular bands in metal. This is all preliminary, but if Gray is leaving behind a wife and a kid that will grow up never having met his dad, it’s the ultimate selfish move.

Forming in 1995, Slipknot burst onto the nu-metal scene with their self-titled album. Known initially for their appearance and masks, the nine-member band subsequently won over many fans that initially dismissed them with their mix of heaviness and their impressive stage show. The first three Slipknot albums have all gone platinum. Their fourth, 2008’s All Hope is Gone, was their first to debut at #1 and will go platinum later this year.

KellyPrestonJust when I was feeling like the oldest mom at play group, another celebrity pushing the "elderly" line helps me feel better about myself!  Kelly Preston just announced she's pregnant with a miracle baby at age 47.

When I was pregnant with my 5th, I read one of my medical sheets and one line said 'advanced maternal age'.  Another in bold words said, 'Elderly'.... really?  I asked the nurse if I was really elderly, and she said anyone who is 35 or older gets that label.

Well I'm in good company, here are a few other aging parents and the ages at which they gave birth.  Since all of them had babies later than I did, they're making me feel quite youthful.

Ronnie James Dio
Despite rumors that began swirling on Saturday, legendary heavy-metal singer Ronnie James Dio (Black Sabbath/Heaven and Hell/Dio/Elf/Rainbow) has not died. In a statement issued on Dio’s Twitter page, his manager/wife Wendy Dio wrote: “Don’t believe the rumors, Ronnie is still hanging in there!!!” Hugs, Wendy Dio.”

As previously reported on LimeWire Music Blog, the famed vocalist has been battling stomach cancer since the end of last year and has been receiving treatment at M.D. Anderson hospital in Houston since he received the diagnosis. In an interview with a local TV station in March, Dio, 67, seemed optimistic about his situation and vowed to fight on.

Earlier this month, Dio’s current band, Heaven and Hell, were forced to cancel the tour supporting The Devil You Know, due to the singer’s health condition. Dio’s camp is currently compiling a special vinyl collection containing all 16 Dio albums. For The Record: The Complete Dio Vinyl Collection will be pressed on “180 gram vinyl, each LP on different color vinyl with a deluxe book and 16 different tour laminates all in a deluxe album carrying case.” The package should be released by Christmas.

In the meantime, let’s all keep Ronnie in our prayers.

No wedding date was given but it sounds like Miranda can't wait to tie the knot as she said: "Weddings are great and engagements are great and diamonds are especially great. How Long Is Iron Man 2 ?

Iron Man 2 Reviews: How Long Is Iron Man 2? – It has been two years since the original “Iron Man” live action movie was released and it got rave reviews around the world. The first movie of the franchise was a huge success, and has gone on to spawn huge profits in merchandise, DVD and ticket sales. “Iron Man 2″ has been anticipated since the first one hit theaters, and has attracted a large following over the course of the last few months. Some fans have gone as far as to camp out and wait for tickets to the first showings at the theaters in their area. The first movie was directed by Jon Favreau. Both Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. have returned for the sequel.

Early tracking has shown that “Iron Man 2″ could make a huge splash in its first weekend, possibly even boasting the largest opening weekend in the history of the box office.

Critics are split on the second movie. Most people agreed that the first movie was excellent, but some have said that the movie was lacking a lot of the elements that were contained in the first movie. You can say that the positive/negative ratio is about 50/50.Those who enjoyed the film have said that it was a worthwhile successor to the original. Those who did not enjoy the movie have had some very harsh words for the sequel to Iron Man.

“Bigger, louder but not better sequel to the 2008 smash hit,” said Chris Vognar of The Dallas Morning Star. His review was one of many that felt the same way.
“Avoiding the pratfalls of sequelitis and simultaneously building a bridge for Marvel to cross over to ‘The Avengers,” Said Neil Miller of FilmSchoolRejects.com. “When ‘Iron Man 2′ doesn’t work, it is still enjoyable. And when it is working — which is more often than not — it works on a level that far exceeds that of the first film. It is an intense ride, full of fun performances, that works hard through its problems to earn the ‘must-see’ tag.”

How long is Iron Man 2? The movie length is 124 minutes (2 hours and 4 minutes.)

Rosalynn Carter pens new book about mental health
By SHANNON McCAFFREY (AP)
ATLANTA — Standing outside an Atlanta cotton mill campaigning for her husband's bid to become governor of Georgia, Rosalynn Carter came upon a stooped and weary woman heading home to care for a mentally ill daughter.

The pre-dawn encounter in 1966 would help launch a crusade that has lasted to this day. As her husband's political career catapulted him to the White House, Mrs. Carter worked to bring mental health to the fore. Her advocacy has continued long after the couple left the nation's capital and established the Carter Center in Atlanta.

The former first lady details that 1966 meeting and her work since in a new book, "Within Our Reach: Ending the Mental Health Crisis." It is Mrs. Carter's fifth book and her second dealing with mental health.

Mrs. Carter, 82, says that while there have been dramatic advances to treat those who suffer from mental illness, the stigma still lingers.

"That's really been frustrating to me," Mrs. Carter said in a recent interview with The Associated Press. "The one thing that holds progress back more than anything else is the stigma."

Popular crime dramas on television, she said, still portray the mentally ill as violent and reinforces the mindset that they should be feared. She said the mentally ill are far more likely to be victims of crime then perpetrators.

And the treatment of Hurricane Katrina victims and veterans returning from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq show there is still much that's misunderstood about mental illness, she said.

"There should be no more shame or stigma attached to mental illness than any other illness," she said.

In the book, Mrs. Carter discusses how she heard repeatedly during her husband's two campaigns for governor about conditions at Georgia's largest mental health hospital. At her urging, her husband created a state panel to tackle the issue of mental health care. And he continued that campaign when he reached the White House.

As first lady, Mrs. Carter served as the honorary chair of the President's Commission on Mental Health. It ultimately pushed through the passage of the 1980 Mental Health Systems Act, which boosted funding for mental illnesses.

When the Carters returned to Georgia and established the Carter Center, she created a program devoted solely to mental health and eventually established fellowships for journalists who cover the issue. And she lobbied in Washington to help push a landmark bill in Congress requiring insurers to provide equality in mental health coverage.

"She's done a terrific job of putting everyone in the same room together and keeping the issue in the spotlight," said Michael Fitzpatrick, executive director of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Mrs. Carter is the first to acknowledge more work must be done. Funding for mental health has seesawed over the years and still lags behind what's needed to provide treatment and community support services, she said. And Mrs. Carter worries the economy will slash already scarce funding for mental illness.

She praised the recently enacted federal health care law saying the provision preventing insurers from denying coverage for pre-existing conditions is a major victory in the mental health field.

Her new book is sometimes deeply personal, describing her father's death and an automobile accident that flipped the car carrying her son, Jeff, then 2 years old. For some time afterward she said her heart would race when reading newspaper accounts of car crashes, leaving her a small understanding of what it might be like to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder.

As a girl growing up in Plains, Mrs. Carter recalls in the book that she was frightened by a nervous young man who could be found wandering the streets. When he would grow agitated, the sheriff would haul him away, sometimes in a straitjacket, to a mental health hospital. She would learn years later that the man was the cousin of her future husband.

Mrs. Carter said she has a particular affinity with the elderly who suffer from depression because of isolation and a sense of being useless after decades in the work force. Her mother, she said, wept when at age 70 she was forced to retire from her job at the U.S. Post Office in Plains.

Even as Mrs. Carter says the mental health system remains in shambles, she argues there is reason to be optimistic.

She said when she took on the issue of mental illness, "I never dreamed that people could receive treatment, that recovery could be possible."

Today, she said, those suffering from schizophrenia can take medicine that effectively erases symptoms.

And in Georgia, which the Carters still call home, recent news is cause for celebration — and worry.

After decades of turmoil, state officials have decided to stop admitting new patients to the Central State Hospital, the facility that first attracted Mrs. Carter's interest.

"To me, it's symbolic," she said. "But I worry about what is going to happen when people go out in the community and there aren't enough services? What will happen to those who leave?"
